FAUNA LALAT DAN PERANANNYA DALAM BIDANG KESEHATAN DI PASAR TRADISIONAL KABUPATEN SLEMAN, DAERAH ISTIMEWA YOGYAKARTA

ABSTRACT

Background: Flies are one of the insects that play a role in health as mechanical vector in spreading the disease. They carrying microorganism through their own body and have a habit of living in poor sanitation place like traditional market.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the following concern: the sanitation of traditional market in Sleman Regency in Yogyakarta, the fauna of flies, the correlation between sanitation of traditional market and intestinal parasites in flies’s body, the correlation between density of files and quantities of intestinal parasites, and abilities of flies to spreading the disease. This study is to determined through intestinal parasites contained in feces that exposed to Musca domestica as mechanical vector.

Method: This study used observation methods. Flies were collected from 6 different places of traditional markets, using sweep net for 3 days and its intestinal parasites were analyzed in Parasitology Laboratory in UGM using Fisher’s Exact Test (α = 0,05).

Result: Cebongan, Sleman, and Condongcatur traditional market have good sanitation while Gamping, Godean and Ngino traditional market have poor sanitation. Flies fauna found were Musca domestica, Crysomya megacephala and Sarcophaga spp. Intestinal parasites were not found in collected flies. The densties of flies have no correlation with quantities of intestinal parasites in their body. The flies M. doemstica have a role as mechanical vector as presented in feces that contain its parasites.
